EMERGENCY CALLS GO TO INDIA! In one Texas county, distraught people displaced by Rita, calling for advice, were routed to India, where people had memorized a script about places where help was available,etc.

The same result could have been achieved by a recorded message--but the Indians also offered sympathy--perhaps in a foreign accent.

Actually there are computer programs that can respond to such people with VIRTUAL sympathy.
